Jeff Johnson is now the official Republican candidate for governor after defeating Tim Pawlenty in the primary on Tuesday. The victory was an easy one winning by 8.5%. It’s hard to believe that he was considered to be the underdog going into Tuesday.
The pollsters who have been getting it wrong for awhile now, and they got it wrong again. This trend started in 2016 when most said Donald Trump had no chance of winning, and continuing into our states primary. Where NBC News/Marist poll had Tim Pawlenty winning by 19%. While Emerson had him winning with 9%.
The good news is this out of date style of survey was wrong, and proofs that they are out of touch with the American people. Americans are done with establishment candidates. Yet the mainstream media, and some in the parties cannot realize that. Until they do realize that they will continue to be shocked come election day.
It was not just the Republican primary. They also got the DFL governor primary wrong. Emerson had Swanson winning by 1% and NBC News/Marist had Swanson winning by 4% both well within the margin of error. However, once the vote was counted Walz had won by 10.8% of the vote, and Swanson sat in 3rd behind Murphy.
The establishment was shocked by both victories, but I don’t think anyone in the real world was. It was honestly easy to see who the front runners were, but I guess they were just blind to it.
